Imagine you are a fatherless disfigured 16-year-old high school student with a mother who is a depressed alcoholic who continually repeats how she hates being the mother of such an ugly girl and she is the reason her father left them- he couldn’t take the burden of having a disfigured daughter.  Jodie has an extremely difficult life.  She is picked on by the kids in school, and when she is home she is the caretaker for her drunk mother.

One Friday night, Jodie gets an invitation to a party and decides to go.  That single decision, to attend the party, not only changes her life but also a group of boys who also attend the party. What happens at the party brings shame for all families involved and a sexual accusation from Jodie.

Zara, a sexual abuse counselor takes on Jodie’s case.  Being a former lawyer, Zara is caught in the middle of defending Jodie and defending her beliefs with her own family who want her to quit her involvement in Jodie’s rape case.

A must read if you love legal drama and trials.  I really enjoyed this book and the surprise ending will shock you.
