What could be better than reading a mystery suspense novel, particularly one that is set in a remote town of Northern Michigan. Have you been to Northern Michigan? Being a Michigander, I have traveled numerous times to the UP or Upper Peninsula and have visited most of the places the author talks about. I love the quiet, densely populated, open spaces of North Michigan and that is why the UP is the perfect setting for Karen Dionne’s latest novel.
Rachel has believed for the last 15 years that she is responsible for the death of her parents. She believes she shot her mother and then her dad killed himself. She becomes suspicious about what she believed was the truth and signs herself out of the psychiatric facility. After returning to her childhood home to find out the truth, she quickly realizes her older sister is the one who pulled the trigger and has allowed Rachel to believe she did it all those years ago. What ensues is Rachel running through a Northern Michigan forest and outwitting her sister to save her life.
I really enjoyed this book, almost as much as The Marsh King’s Daughter. I would highly suggest you add this to your nightstand.
