I started this month with an amazing book titled The Golden Couple, by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I would recommend this title if you are looking for a suspense full of twists. I then moved on to read the murder mystery, The House Across the Lake, by Riley Sager. This title is reminiscent of the book The Women in the Window, by A,J. Finn. Loved both of them.
Netflix released a series in January based loosely on these murder mysteries. I found the series funny and entertaining.
As far as nonfiction, I loved the new book by Rachel Ray. She found herself filming from her home kitchen without a crew (her husband held the camera) during the Covid shutdown. It was uncomfortable and difficult but after a while Ray reveals it was also nice not leaving her house and spending time with her husband. She tells all about it in this amazing bio/cookbook titled This Must be the place: dispatches and food from the home front.
Listened to a new CD by Gavin McGraw titled Face the River. So good! l listened to it the entire week in the car and while I ate dinner. I ordered a copy for myself and plan on listening to it after the Christmas music season.
All books and Music CD can be found in your public library!
The Library has been very busy this summer and the hottest author everyone is looking for is Colleen Hoover. Have you read any of her books yet? I have not, but I put my name on the holds list for Verity, I can’t wait to read it! I did read a really good book titled Counterfeit by Kristin Chen and I read Bright Burning Things by Lisa Harding.
Movies and Streaming…
Very good movie with one of Hollywood's hardest working actors Mark Wahlberg!
Loved it!
Above books and movies are available in your public library!
Another very hot July! Thank goodness our Library has good air conditioning. 🙂 I have been lazy with chores but reading a lot this month. I began the month with The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan, then moved on to The Littlest Library by Poppy Alexander.
June is one of my most favorite summer months! The library is bustling with activity as the school children are ready to enroll in the summer reading programs! Enrollment is up this year, and we are ready. 🙂 I have been reading as well. This month I tackled The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson and The Library Bookby Susan Orlean. Both very good and both about a topic close to my heart.
Movies or Streaming this month…
Hustle was a fantastic movie starring Adam Sandler
Bill Burr live at Red Rocks, so funny!
The about mentioned books are available from your public library, as well as the movie Hustle, but I haven’t seen Bill Burr Live at Red Rocks on the shelf yet, maybe soon.
Life at home is busy with major construction projects so reading has taken a backseat. I did watch as often as I could seasons 2 and 3 of Downton Abbey. I guess I need time off from reading every so often. Do you ever feel that way? I did keep up with trade journals and the news, but as far as fiction goes…nada.
Public libraries have all the seasons of Downton Abbey along with Downton Abbey full length movies. I will generate a list of movies and books that highlight English series that are very popular in the library.
Busy this month with responsibilities that precluded my reading output… I did have time to enjoy Mrs. Englandby Stacey Halls. Would I recommend this book? Probably not, not very engaging and certainly not a page turner. As far as nonfiction, I really enjoyed diving into this cookbook. So many clean eating recipes.
Clean eating made simple : a healthy cookbook with delicious whole-food recipes for eating clean.

I got sucked up into the world of Downton Abbey. I love it and now wonder why I waited so long to enjoy a wonderful English series.
