Do you remember the show Desperate Housewives? It was a popular TV show (2004-2008) depicting a group of women who were also neighbors. The neighbors became fast friends as they worked through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes, and mysteries hidden behind their front doors. On the surface all looked perfect, peel the layers away and you could see many flaws. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is a similar story line. In a quiet, gated community we meet Georgia, who is getting married for the third time. Erin her friend, who happens to live across the street and is a TV journalist, and the new neighbor Brooke, who just moved in next door to Georgia-she is young, beautiful and writes crime novels. Brooke and Erin are married to older, successful, powerful men. Georgia is getting married in a few days to multimillionaire Robert- this will be her third husband; the other two husbands met their demise quite unfortunately.
While on Robert’s yacht a few days before the wedding, neighbors and friends are invited to have an early celebration for the upcoming nuptials. The party is fabulous, although the next day Robert went missing. The police are doing what they can to find him. Brooke panicking, enlists the help from her neighbors and friends Brooke and Erin to help find Robert. As the wedding day approaches and Robert is still missing, secrets are surfacing and the women start to worry the truth will be revealed. Was there a murder? Has Robert been killed by the Black Widow, aka Georgia?
Karen’s thoughts: This was a good one friends! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and the story kept me interested. Book clubs will love the fast-pace of the novel and some may actually have seen the Desperate Housewives TV show and be able to find common themes. The unexpected plot twist in the end is gratifying!
