Meet Roger Daltrey of The Who

You read that right, I shook hands with Roger Daltry, the founding member of The Who…my favorite band of all time, “ever since I was a young boy”.  Here’s the backstory.

DaK, my brother and sister-in-law all attended the North American Roger Daltrey Tour 2024 at Meadow Brook Music Amphitheater in Rochester, MI on June 25th. Although I have attended many Who concerts it was everyone’s first Roger Daltrey concert.

The day before the concert my brother and sister-in-law met at the Royal Park Hotel restaurant in Rochester for a late evening snack as we had a hunch that Roger was going to stay there. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to someday meet Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend in person. Well, with some persistence and luck, half of that dream was realized as around 8:00 pm, the evening before the concert, as we saw Roger Daltrey with some of his band members enjoying an evening on the Royal Park Hotel patio.

Being seated at a table near Roger, and after much consternation about interrupting his evening, my brother and I went for it! We apologized for the interruption and introduced ourselves. Roger was very cordial and listened to my stories regarding what a big fan I am, including my “Who themed” wedding at the very same hotel a few years earlier. One of the band members joked “and are you still married?” which Roger found amusing.

It’s been awhile…

Great memories with friends on so many bike rides!

Hi Friends! We have been somewhat silent on the blog as of late.  Dave is loving retirement- running and biking everyday while Karen is still working and trying to fit in running and biking when she can.  We have been so busy with house updates. The master bath is almost complete while the kitchen updates are just getting started! So exciting!!

We will post pics of the completed projects soon.  We traveled to Cadillac, Michigan last week for more biking across Michigan. We will make sure to give you a post with pictures about that trip.

Life is so busy and we rarely sit still but reading is always top on my list.  I am reading a great book right now titled The School for Good Mothers, by Jessamine Chan.  It’s a quick read and I recently found out it will be made into a TV series. 🙂 More on this book and others that I have recently enjoyed later!

BEER Tasting Party

We finally had the 3rd Annual DaK Beer Tasting (albeit delayed 11 months due to COVID-19). The turnout was robust (20 vaccinated people) and we got to sample 12 different beers. The beers covered the gamut from ales to wheats/lagers to belgians to browns, and stouts. We even had a sour and a framboise (raspberry) beer. All in all, I think everyone enjoyed the opportunity to taste some new beers, eat some good food, and enjoy everyone’s company. Of course, and to keep with tradition, it snowed.

We The People - Armada, MI

Thanks to Ross and Sam for hosting the event at We The People in the village of Armada, MI. and to Sam for her wonderful food!  You can read about our past beer tasting here and get the score card we used for rating each beer.

A Luncheon Date!

Karen an I took a little day trip to Fenton, MI on October 19th following a super fun wedding the Saturday prior. We ate “linner” at The Laundry, one of our favorite restaurants. The food is great and they have a great beer selection. We both had variations of turkey based sandwiches and a very nice German Bock beer (Schneider’s “Aventinus” wheat doppleboch). Great weather, and even better company!
