Monday Mash-Up

Hi Friends!  The rain has finally left us for a little while and the sun is shining!  Friday night was spent eating a vegetarian pizza and sipping a Milk Shake Stout from the Rochester Brewing Company.  Had a good time hanging out at the bar- I think we sat there for two full hours after we ate just talking about and planning out our life for the next few months. We have lots of upcoming travel and so many bike races and running races to look forward too!!

Saturday night we invited Dave’s brother over for dinner and a movie.  I made a really good soup for this blog- Damndelicious.net  I ended up making the white bean and spinach soup.  I added celery and omitted the onion. Very good with lots of leftovers!

This website is full of good healthy recipes that are very easy to prepare.  I am making this for tomorrow’s breakfast.  An overnight oatmeal concoction- just need to stop at the store to get some almond milk.  Search easy overnight oats on the website.

mcdonalds-founder-ray-kroc-joan-burger-philanthropyThe movie we ended up watching was The Founder with Micheal Keaton.  We all really enjoyed it and came away from it with lots of questions for further discussion.  What a smuck Ray Kroc was.  I can’t believe he never paid the agreed upon percentage that he and the McDonald brothers shook hands on.  Really?!  It’s not like he couldn’t afford it. His wife ended up giving his fortune to the Salvation Army and NPR.  Next book I plan to read is …curious to find out more about their relationship.

Saturday we ran 3. Sunday we ran 3 and biked 18!  We finally got in some sun shine! We were were missing it because of the gray skies we have been having.

How was your weekend??

Random thoughts on a rainy Thursday and some favorite pictures

Feels like it’s been raining forever here in Michigan.  April showers will hopefully bring lots of May flowers this year.  I wanted to run and meet a friend this morning but the rain made that impossible. Instead, I ended up taking a class at the local health club.  A hot yoga class that wasn’t as hot as the one I did last month.  This one was kept at a cool 85Β° and the movements were real slow. I didn’t feel like I was going to pass out and I actually completed all of the movements. I think maybe I have finally found a hot yoga class that will work for me. I am still eating lean proteins with lots of vegetables for lunch and dinner, but I have also included oatmeal for breakfast and an occasional beer after dinner. It feels good to enjoy a craft beer now and then. I am only maintaining the weight loss, have not lost any more, although my goal is to lose weight, not maintain. πŸ™

Dave and I have been running as much as we can, of course the rain is a hindrance. Nonetheless, we try to get out there daily if not every other day to run 3-4 miles.  We have so many bike races this summer scheduled and we need to be in great shape for them.  We have only had our bikes out twice so far. Still talking and thinking about another triathlon.  The one we did last summer was grueling and it is tough to think about the cold waters of Lake Michigan again. We will see.

Dave finished first in his age!

Me getting ready to cross the finish line!

 Celebrating after the tri!

Best bike ride last year- the Ability Tour in Lansing, MI.  The proceeds help the handicap get fitted for bikes.

Harsen’s Island bike ride with friends- we rode this in July and ended up at the Sans Souci Bar and Grill for the best perch sandwich ever!

Another favorite picture- last summer we rode the Green Cruise in Ferndale, Michigan with friends and had such a good ride and day.  The weather was perfect and riding along the Detroit Riverfront was just beautiful. You can see Canada in the background.

Another good memory, each year we run the Turkey Trot which is part of the Thanksgiving parade in Downtown Detroit. When we get home, Dave helps with the preparation of the meal- I love that he helps πŸ™‚

His peeling of sweat potatoes led to a wonderful dish.

This is us a month later (Dec.2016) enjoying a sunset cruise in Hawaii!
This picture makes me smile.  We have honestly had the best times at bars…I don’t know what it is. Well it’s probably the beer, but we have the best talks and laughs when we sit close to one another and enjoy a good craft beer πŸ™‚

Halloween was so wonderful with KJ!

Cheers!  Hope wherever you are it’s sunny.

Monday Mash-Up!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter!  We were busy as usual,  Friday we rode our bikes to a local brewery and enjoyed a hand tossed pizza with brussel sprouts and artichokes.  So good!  We enjoyed a Milkshake Stout from the Rochester Mills Brewery, tasted great with the pizza.  On Saturday we had brunch over Lauren’s and had such fun watching KJ find his eggs!

Saturday night was spent with girlfriends.  The event for the night was a sign party πŸ™‚  We had a blast making these signs.

Not much can beat wine, women, and laughter!

Fat Flush Cleanse

It must have been 10 years ago now that I found this book on my way home from a family vacation in Oscoda, Michigan.  There was an outlet mall in West Branch and we pulled over to shop and kill some time- the girls were young and needed to stretch their legs.  While walking into a Barnes and Noble bookstore, I came across this book in the nutrition isle at 50% off.
3d-living-beauty-detox

I was immediately drawn to the cover and started reading the table of contents.  The book addressed everything I was having issues with at the time- lack of energy, needing to lose weight, dull hair, tired complexion…

I read the entire book on the way home and was inspired at how knowledgeable the author was.   I was excited to try a fat flush detox.  I purchased all the vitamins and oils needed to complete the flush.  I followed the instructions completely and lost 10 pounds and a few inches in the two weeks.  I was extremely pleased with the results and have since tried to do the cleanse a few times a year.

For a successful flush you need to eat the lean protein, vegetables, fruit, and drink the psyllium and cranberry juice each day as Dr. Gittleman suggests.  You are not permitted carbs, sugar, processed foods, nuts or beans.  I didn’t miss regular food too much except the carbs- my toast and craft beer were calling me this last cleanse.  I lost 12 pounds in two weeks and hope to keep most of that off.  I always feel better after a cleanse, my complexion is brighter and my hair looks shinier.   I sleep well and wake feeling completely rested .  Also, during the cleanse period I  have no digestion problems which means I’m not taking Tums every night.

My energy level is not the same when I cleanse, but that is to be expected.  I needed more rest periods and loved taking cat naps when I could.   I still ran daily and lifted weights every other day. I hope to continue eating protein and mostly veggies for lunch and dinner and oatmeal with nuts and honey for breakfast.  I am hoping to continue to lose more weight-ideally I would like to weight 136 and I now weight 144. We will see.

You must go to Dr. Gittleman’s website http://annlouise.com/ and read up on the detox and fat flush program. She has some amazing recipes.  I tried the fat flush soup the other day and Dave loved it.

Broccoli with a squirt of lemon juice is so tasty
So many of our meals were cooked using our electric frying pan with a little olive oil- just put in lean protein tossed with a few veggies and whala!
breakfast: scrambled egg whites and spinach with a side of fruit.
Usually my 3:00 snack

Ask me anything, as I am a huge fan of Dr. Gittleman.

Monday Mash-Up

Hi Friends! Woke up to birds singing and sun shining here in Michigan.  We might have finally turned the corner on this weather thing.  Well, let’s hope so.  Yesterday was so warm and sunny we actually put the cushions on the furniture on the back porch!  We rode our bikes for a whopping 37 mile ride, first long ride of the season, and then proceeded to relax on the back porch because we were pooped! We should probably ease into biking but that’s not how we roll- it was so nice to get on our bikes again.  We stopped for a beer at our local pub to celebrate our first ride of the season.  We shared a Rochester Mills Milkshake Stout with Toffee, 5.2 ABV and a Witch’s Hat Edwards Portly Brown, 5.5 ABV, both very good.

Saturday night we got a chance to hang all night with KJ.  Lauren and Chris had a party to go and would be returning last so they all spent the night!   KJ was a delight!

We had dinner at a local pizzeria and KJ was a ham as usual.  Gave him a bath and read stories to him before bed, so nice to have a little one running around πŸ™‚

We ran on Friday and Saturday bringing the tally to 16 miles this week.  Broke my cleansing for pizza and beer this weekend- felt it was time.

Look for Wednesday’s post-I will discuss the cleanse and what I accomplished πŸ™‚

How was your weekend?

Monday Mash-Up!

Hurray for April!  Finally, the days are getting longer.  On Saturday, it was light out by 6:00 am!  We love the longer days because you can get more done, or least that’s how it seems. We ran early on Saturday just so we could enjoy the beautiful sun light on our faces.  We upped the run to a 4 mile loop and it felt good.  We also ran on Sunday another 3 miles and biked to the grocery store.  We have bags that hook on our bikes and fit everything we need for the week.  We got them last year at the bike store we favor, on sale of course.  Bontrager Town Large Shopper Bag
We have two of these bags and they hook right on the back bike rack.  They easily unhook and can be taken into the store to shop.  Super convenient!  They are called Bontrager Town Large Shopper.

On Saturday afternoon we ended up at an outdoor mall to get a price adjustment on a coat I picked up from Nordstrom.  We ended up having lunch at the Black Finn where Dave enjoyed a baby kale quinoa salad and I got the turkey burger, no bun, served with green beans and broccoli.  Yummy!  I have already lost 4lbs since I started my cleanse. πŸ™‚  Dave enjoyed a Griffin Claw Imperial Coffee at 12%ABV with his lunch. Me- I had water with lemon; beer doesn’t fit into a cleanse.
Speaking of cleanse, this is what I have been enjoying for breakfast as of late.  Scrambled egg whites with spinach and a dash of pepper with a fruit salad.  Not that bad but I do miss my toast with peanut butter.  I’ll do a full post on the cleanse soon.

Sunday, after grocery shopping, found us relaxing while listening to music.  Dave has a large collection of LP’s and every so often feels the need to play them.  He has them alphabetized; he stated with America and ended with Kathy Mattea.  The music was just beautiful.

This cabinet is perfect for his album collection and stereo equipment.

Today we have construction crews here finishing up the master bath.  Pics later in the week. Also, I will finish the March book review in a day or two.

How was your weekend?  Did you get out and play in the warmer weather?
