Two books came to my attention lately and both are very good on giving advice on ways to get organized. Beautifully Organized: A Guide to Function and Style in Your Home written by Nikki Boyd and The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals written by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin. Both were published in 2019 and have been very popular in the public library- checking out often and even on the holds list. Both books offer beautiful pictures of the aftereffect of organizing any space in your house. And both books offer the reader a step-by-step approach to organization.
Step one– Take everything out of the space, Step two- create groupings- what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of, Step three– get rid of those things that you want to get rid of. That’s it…after that you need to organize what’s left in pretty containers and on pretty hangers and start enjoying your stress-free life. Really, the authors make it sound so effortless and appealing that you want to start organizing right away!
Both books are inspiring and offer easy-to-follow advice to keep your newly organized space clean and clutter free- which is always difficult for me as I am a creature of habit and always allow the clutter back in 🙁 The authors from Home Edit tell us to follow the simple rule One in, One out. Replace an item but also eliminate an item. The author of Beautifully Organized tells us that once we have committed to an organized home, we should strive to keep it that way as we are then presenting our best selves and really isn’t that what we all want- To be the best that we can be?! (I should probably put up a sign somewhere noticeable in the house to remind me to keep clutter free so that I can always present my best self. No Joke- I will forget otherwise).
Enjoy these wonderful and very helpful books! The New Year always screams organize and declutter to me. Does it do the same to you? I can’t wait to get started. As I am typing this I have opened another screen looking for shelf liners that are non-adhesive so I can begin to reorganize the kitchen cupboards. 🙂
Have a wonderful few days before the New Year!
