Based on a true story, Lale, a Slovakian Jew becomes a tattooist artist in Auschwitz to survive.  While preforming his job, he meets a young inmate named Gita.  He promptly falls in love with her and begins a secretive relationship despite the harsh conditions.  Their love grows and promises are made to stay together when the war is over.  A beautiful love grows out of the ugliness of humanity.  Such a wonderfully, hopeful story of courage and survival.  

Great choice for a book club!
