Public Libraries

Why I love public libraries and why you should make use of them.

Personal thoughts on the topic:

1.  Libraries have the newest released books.  People love to read the latest release, they want to feel connected to others when discussing books and authors.
2.  Libraries have the newest technologies for loan and most libraries offer free training on computers and smart phones/devises.
3.  Libraries provide a physical space to spend time reading, reflecting, meditating, that costs zero       dollars.  Many libraries also provide study rooms for small group study.
4.  Libraries offer lectures, concerts, films, crafts, age appropriate programming, and book clubs for the youngest of readers to the well-read patron.
5.  Libraries offer a friendly atmosphere with staff who are genuinely willing to help.
6.  Libraries are welcoming to all, zero tolerance for discrimination.
7.  Libraries have computers with internet and printers.
8.  Libraries provide free newspapers, magazines, DVD’s, CD’s, and games for checkout.
9.  Libraries provide free apps for homework help, tutoring, music, video’s, downloadable books.
10. Finally, many public schools have eliminated the school librarians/Media Specialist making it even more important to have research librarians in the public library.  Someone needs to teach students the proper way to find sources and cite them correctly.

One of the many library “Take and Make” programs we have running at this time.  Patrons can come in and just take the kit, no sign up required.  The response has been wonderful and the soup is good too!
