We meet Molly Gray as she enters a hotel room for cleaning…politely knocking making sure the guests are gone and if not, asking them if they are ready for their room to be put back to a “state of perfection. ” Molly zestfully preforms her job as one of the maids at the Regency Grand Hotel. She loves her uniform, her routine, stocking her cart with miniature products and the people she works with. At 25, Molly has reached her potential. Being socially awkward takes a toll, so the more invisible Molly can make herself the better. Being a maid is a thankless job and that’s alright with Molly. She likes order and rules and the expectations set for her by her boss are easily met.
All seems to be OK in Molly’s world, until the day Molly discovers a dead body in one of the rooms she is responsible to clean. Due to her awkwardness, the police suspect Molly and now have arrested her for murder
Karen’s thoughts: I absolutely loved this book. Molly is quirky and weird and innocent and loveable and charming. Nita Prose has written a protagonist that is full of character and warmth. You absolutely fall in love with Molly and cheer her on as a group of friends rally around her as she navigates the legal system.
Book clubs are loving this book and are hopeful that a movie will be made soon.
