I tried Stitch Fix

Yup, I took the plunge.  My work place offered all staff a free month trial of Stitch Fix.  Have you heard of this company?  I was familiar with the company and even a few bloggers I follow get a fix every few months.  The premise is this-a few times a year Stitch Fix will send you a box of goodies based on a survey you filled out.  The survey asks tons of questions trying to get to know your style likes and dislikes.  Do you wear jeans? Do you like booties?  Describe what you do and where you might wear your new pieces we send you…you get the idea.  I was as honest as I could be.  I gave them my size, styles I like, styles I don’t like, what I do for a living and the climate here in Michigan.  I told them I would rather have them focus on clothes that are fun and date night worthy.  I have enough office wear already.  And then I waited.

My first box came almost right away (like a week later) – I was surprised they gathered my goods so quickly.  It made me think this could be a company that has boxes already prepared for a certain age group.  Regardless, I was so excited to open the box and see what the designer chose especially for me.  Imagine having your own personal shopper- right?!  The packaging was cute and the clothes were packed tightly into a small box.

First thing I did was open the envelope.  There was a style sheet to stylize my new pieces!  Nice. Very promising so far!

These are the pieces they selected for me. Looks good, although it also looks expensive.  If I keep the entire box of contents it will cost me $227.00.

I excitedly opened the wrapping paper to reveal the contents of my fix.

A pair of medium wash jeans.

A cute greenish light weight shirt with a cami attached.

A gray causal sweater to wear with leggings and a blue light-weight cardigan.

Lastly, a silver necklace.

My thoughts- send it all back as quickly as it was shipped to me.  This box was a hot mess!  I would never, ever buy the items in this box if I were out shopping. The jeans were not skinny jeans (I specifically filled out the survey stating that I am only comfortable in skinny jeans), the green flowered shirt was huge (XL), I told them I wear a M in shirts and sweaters.  The blue cardigan was something that maybe someone’s grandmother might wear, and the necklace was ultra-cheap looking.  The only salvageable item in the box was the large gray sweater and after looking in my closet I found one so similar that it was hard to justify keeping it.  So, I went back online and filled out the return slip and sent the package back.  If my work place had not offered this service for a free trial period it would have cost me $20.00 just to receive the fix even though I ended up sending all items back- I guess the $20.00 charge is for the shipping and gathering of the contents. I really don’t feel my personal shopper listened to my needs and wants.  Luckily, returns are free with the shipping bag they provide.  If I had to pay for return shipping, I would be extremely unhappy.

A few days later I got another email from Stitch Fix apologizing and offering up another free box for a try. They really want to keep me as a customer, even though they have lost money on me so far.  I replied …”Sure!”   I know, I know, I’m a sucker, but I really want this to work and I am hoping they surprise me with something that I would normally not purchase- take me out of my comfort zone; besides, I have never had a personal stylist before.

Now I wait.  I will let you know what the contents in my next fix are and I will try to take better pics for you as well.

Till next time,

Karen
