Traveling to Collinwood for the Elvis Festival!

Visiting Collinwood, Canada

Is your lip curled?  Can you sing “Don’t Step on My Blue Suede Shoes?”  Then you too could be an Elvis impersonator:)  We had a blast last weekend when we visited Collingwood and Blue Mountain in Ontario, Canada.

The Elvis Fest was going strong in Collinwood!

All you need is some fancy swag and long bushy sideburns!

It’s a family affair!

Seriously though, we heard some amazing music- and all of it was free.  Throughout Collingwood and Blue Mountain Village stages were set up and almost every hour starting on Friday – Sunday there was live music.  We heard a lot of Elvis songs but we also heard lots of other songs that were popular in the 50’s – 70’s.  It was so much fun and we want to go back for sure!

25,000 people embark on Collingwood during the Elvis Fest.

We stayed at The Westin Trillium House, an acquired property of the Marriott family.  So- the property itself was very nice.  We had a suite which had two bedrooms and two full bathrooms.  We invited Ann and Dave to join us because our room was so big and we didn’t want to waste the extra bedroom.  The hotel has a pretty good restaurant, clean rooms, and a spacious lobby. The staff were polite but not very honest when we asked about the air conditioning not working.  The air conditioning could not cool the room down properly.  It was very hot outside and the room inside just could not get cooled down; therefore, it was hard to sleep comfortably and we felt very sticky at times. We opened the windows just to get a little breeze, but we had to be careful because the screens had rips and tears in them and we were afraid we would have bugs in the room.  We inquired four separate times about the air and were told that someone would come to the room and check it out.  They did, but the story was always the same…it’s working fine and your room should be cooled down soon.  That never happened.  On the last day we were in the elevator with a worker and he said the air hasn’t worked all season and everyone has complained about the air.  We all agreed that we would never stay at this property again.  There are other hotels and B&B’s to choose from, unfortunately none of them are Marriott properties.  I tried to give the hotel a poor review but there is no where on the site to post a review.

Since Canada is so close we were able to drive there and bring our own bikes.  We rode all weekend with Ann and Dave.  We rode to the beach, to the downtown area, to Collingwood and back.

Blue Mountain Resort Village is so beautiful with so many great restaurants and wonderful shopping.

Dave checking his phone for directions- again 🙂

Ann and I did an outdoor Yoga class at IWA Yoga Studio.  Neither one of us had ever done yoga outside- it was a lot of fun except for the ants that kept crawling on to our yoga mats. 🙁

We also spent a day at the Scenic Caves Nature Adventures in Blue Mountain.  We toured the caves, walked the Nature Trails and strapped in for the Thunderbird Nest- Ontario’s longest twin zip line- 2550 ft with a 287 ft vertical drop.  Two parallel zip lines ride side-by-side, so I was next to Dave while we challenged ourselves for this crazy, breathtaking ride. The views on the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment were breathtaking.

All in all another great getaway!  Loved spending time with Dave and Ann- in fact, we just booked another Viking River Cruise trip for next year!!

Dave and I biked 45 miles over the weekend and ran 6 miles in the extreme heat.

Happy travels friends!
