I have become somewhat enamored with Peter as of late.  I have been devouring his books and it’s so easy to do because they are of a genre that I gravitate to.  This one did not disappoint.

Malcom Kershaw, owner of Old Devil’s Bookstore, enjoys his quiet life.  He has access to wonderful stories and enjoys a good craft beer often.  He has a steady flow of customers and a silent partner that leaves him alone to run the store.   On a cloudy afternoon Gwen Mulvey, an FBI agent, shows up asking questions about a list of “perfect fictional murders” that Kershaw published years ago as a blog post on his website.  HIs list consisted of eight classic books that feature undetectable murders and the FBI agent suspects someone is using this list and replicating the murders from each book. Problem is, Kershaw is a little too familiar with the list- not just being the author, but possible the killer.

The story is told through Kershaw’s point of view as he strives to be careful not to reveal too much information to the FBI agent and yet show concern for the victims.  This is where Swanson shines, his use of inner dialog and characterization is so good! This was a page turner and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to Kershaw in the end.

A great choice for a book club that loves a good mystery!

…and all of the beer names mentioned in the book- I’m thirsty just thinking about them😉
