Catching Up!

Happy Monday Friends!  How was your weekend?  I hope the weather where you reside was just as beautiful as it was here in Michigan.  We were crazy busy- here is what we were up to!

Four empty glasses

On Friday we headed out to downtown Utica for the “Fork and Cork” festival.  There were lots of vendors selling their crafts and lots of beer and wine for sale.  Tons of food trucks were offering up some good-looking food, but we decided to drink at the Steampunk Tap Room because Dave found out they were selling CBS.  Yes, you read that correctly, they had barrels of Canadian
Breakfast Stout from Founder’s Brewery on tap and we were in heaven! We indulged for over an hour just loving the beer and the company.  Ann and Dave joined us, and we always have so much fun together.  Ann and I were cracking up over our conversation on massages and the one I received in Montreal- one for the record books- probably should have been reported. 🙂  The masseuse was a little friendly with his hands.   Anyway, after we enjoyed our beer we headed to the Muldoon’s Tavern for dinner.  The laughter kept up as we made plans for our Viking Cruise planned for next year.  After dinner we walked around and listened to the bands playing.  A good night had by all.

How was your weekend?

What a wonderful weekend we had here in Michigan. The weather was beautiful- the sun was shining and the sky’s were blue. Let’s recap what we did…

On Saturday we headed out with our bikes to Grosse Pointe.  We wanted to ride to Detroit along the waterfront and view the boats on Lake St. Clair one more time before the cold winds start to blow.  Our destination was the Detroit Atwater Brewery.  They have a few Octoberfest beers to sample and we were missing our good German beers from our recent vacation.

Our buddies Ann and Dave joined us for the day!

We stopped by the Detroit River Front for a break and some pictures.

We also rode along the Dequindre Cut.

We finally arrived at Atwater and sampled quite a few beers. Ann settled on a Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale (ABV 6%), her Dave had a Bloktoberfest (ABV 6.10%), My Dave had a Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale (ABV. 5%) and I had the Hessian Lives Pumpkin Ale (different from Ann’s) (ABV 7%).  We all loved mine the best so our second beer was Hessian Lives Pumpkin Ale for all. 🙂 We ended up eating there also and loved the new “Almost Burger” they had on the menu.

Once we were full and our thirst was quenched, we headed back to our bikes for the ride back.  Detroit has invested in their bike lanes this year so we felt very safe on the road alongside cars because of the designated bike lane.

Our plan was to end up at the Grosse Pointe Atwater Brewery for a night cap before heading home.  We all wanted one more beer and we wanted the Pumpkin Ale.  Unfortunately for us they don’t sell the same beers at each locality. So, we ended up ordering a plate of hot chocolate cookies and called it a night.  All in all, we biked 23.50 miles and burned 886 calories.  Not bad for a Saturday late afternoon bike ride with friends.

On Sunday we saw the movie Brittany runs a Marathon.  We both really enjoyed it and since it was raining Sunday afternoon it was a great way to kill the time.  It was motivating and entertaining and a good “date night” movie.

We did manage to run Saturday morning (4 miles) before we went biking and biked another 18.25 on Sunday morning.

How was your weekend? Did you exercise?  Did you get outside?

10 pics as of late!

Hello Friends!!  It’s been a hot minute since I checked in… here are a few pictures to enjoy 🙂

A view from our backyard!  Yup, we are blessed with this beautiful view each time we step outside onto our patio.  I know, it looks like a park, right?

I have a hard time focusing on reading because my attention is always drawn to the yard 🙂

We traveled to Montreal during the 4th of July week.

The best farmer’s markets are in Montreal!

Lunch at the farmers market- a fruit beer with Greek yogurt and organic fruit- YUM

While riding our bikes we came across some amazing wall art.
We also came across this beautiful portrait of Leonard Cohen painted on a building in Old Town.

I’ll do a full post soon on how we spent our time in Montreal and Kingston, CA.

Auf Wiedersehen-

10 pics as of late…

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I posted anything on the blog.  This is the longest break I have ever taken …but we have been pretty busy over here at DAK Living and I am anxious to share with you what we have been up to.

Here we go…

Travel, yup travel, we have been away for two full weeks in Germany and on a Viking Cruise!  I have so many memories and pictures to share with you.  Right now, I will share a few.

We started our journey in Budapest.  This is our second time being there and it was just as magical as the first time.

While in Munich, Germany we attended the Spring Oktoberfest!

We traveled for two-full weeks with our dear friends Ann and Dave.

I have been spending quality time with my two favorite boys- KJ and Ryan.  Ryan is learning to crawl and is all over the place. 🙂  KJ started playing T-ball and he loves it!

I found a wonderful artist on ETSY and she sent her work all the way from Israel to hang in our bathroom.

Each piece is signed and framed and I can’t wait to hang them.  I think it’s just what the powder room needed.

It will look similar to this picture when hung on the bathroom wall.  You can click on the link to see the actual prints.

Dave hung the stainless steel shelf we ordered from ETSY as well.  I love ETSY- it’s great to buy product from the actual artist.  Anyway, this shelf is absolutely beautiful!!

We have been enjoying an abundance of KBS this year.  It’s being sold in almost every store that sells craft beer and we have already bought enough to last us all year.  It is our favorite local beer and it’s only brewed in the spring of each year.  This year the brewery released more than usual and we have been so happy because we can find it easily.

We continue to exercise daily and we even rented bikes in Germany while on vacation.  We also ran along side the Danube River on the cruise.  It was just lovely. 🙂  Our spin class is over for us for now due to the warmer weather- we would prefer to bike outside when we can.  We will see Oman in the fall when the days grow shorter and colder.  I am still loving my Orange Theory classes and still run and workout for cross training.

…And we are now food combining most of our meals.  I will also write a post on what that is but you can learn about it here as well.

Take care friends,

Auf Wiedersehen!

Catching Up!

Hello friends!  Are you ready for another week?  I don’t know about you, but I am feeling the time change and I continue to wonder why we even do this?  It must be the most archaic, outdated concept I know of.  Thoughts?  Anyway, we scrambled to get to our spin class on Sunday morning- both of us totally forgot to change the clocks. 🙁  Here is a recap of what we did over the weekend.

Dave surprised me and cooked dinner.  He was able to work from home on Wednesday so he made salmon, brown rice, and asparagus-served with a Belgium beer from Chimay Brewing. It was so nice to be pampered and waited on. 🙂

On Friday we had dinner with my brother Dave to celebrate his upcoming birthday.  We headed over to one of our favorite spots Bigalora’s Cucina.  They have a great selection of pizza and a bountiful draft beer selection.

Saturday was spent with this little munchkin!

I posted this picture on Instagram- daklivingblog

He was with us for quite a few hours and all he did was smile, eat, sleep, and smile some more- he is such a blessing to Lauren and Chris and to our whole family.
Poor picture quality here but we did have fun on Saturday night listening to a wonderful band while eating a scrumptious dinner.  We have friends who opened up a dining hall near us and they host a monthly dinner/band evening for a reasonable price.  We were home early and asleep early so we could be up and ready for our spin class- if we could only have remembered to change the clocks 🙂  We did make it to class on time, but we had to hustle to get there.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Exercise for the week
Dave ran 12 miles and I ran 15 miles, we both biked 15 miles in our spin class.  I participated in four Orange Theory classes that kicked my butt.  🙂
