Monday Mash-Up

Happy Monday!

I can’t believe it’s been 16 years since 9-11.  I remember I was taking a class of 9th grade English students on a tour of the library.  We were discussing the location of the fiction materials and nonfiction materials. I just began my discussion on the rules of the library when suddenly a student yelled out that something was happening on the big television screen that was on mute in the library.  We turned to see what he was talking about and were all stunned as our voices fell silent. Shortly thereafter, the Principal was on the PA system telling us what was happening and that we were to stay in our classrooms until he told us differently.  The 9th-grade English students sat down and quietly began staring at the TV.  They were with me for 3-full hours before the Principal said it was OK to change classrooms.  It was a terrible day and one that I will always remember. It was my first class visit as the new Librarian.

On to what we did this weekend- I had Friday off from work which is so unusual.  I ended up running 3 miles in the morning and then ate a very healthy breakfast of avocado toast with an egg.

I had lots of errands to complete- returns from July purchases, that’s how behind I have been.  Anyway, I ended up at Burlington Coat Factory and did some shopping.  I picked up these three pieces and I can’t wait to wear them.  One comfortable dress I can pair with little booties, a striped shirt for jeans or in the summer with white jeans, and a gray sweater to wear with yoga pants or skinny jeans.  I love the bell sleeves on the sweater đŸ™‚

I also cleaned up the yard and started to winterize the flower beds.  I picked this beautiful flower and put it in a bud vase.

We ended up staying home on Friday night and began watching The Royals on Netflix,  so good!  I love historical fiction and I really enjoy watching the series which includes the coronation of  Queen Elizabeth.  I wonder what the queen thinks of this production.  We are already up to episode 4 of Season I.  Season II begins in January đŸ™‚ Dave says he likes the series but I think he would rather be outside on his bike.  He really doesn’t like to watch too much TV.  I could watch a good show all day long.

Saturday morning we rode in the Green Cruise in Ferndale, MI.  It was a beautiful 42-mile bike ride through the streets of Detroit.  We rode through Indian Village, Palmer Park, Belle Isle, Detroit’s waterfront…ending back up in Fashionable Ferndale.  We had a great time and got in a terrific workout.
Steel cut oats, blackberries with honey, before the bike ride.

I posted this picture on Instagram on Saturday night before we had Dave’s brother Doug and is wife Kim over for drinks.  Dave brought out some old family photos for laughs.

On Sunday we rode our bikes into Downtown Rochester for the annual Arts and Apples Craft Fair.  Didn’t buy anything but did enjoy walking around and seeing the beautiful artwork.

There was a tiny house on display.

Overall we had a very nice weekend with warm and sunny weather.  We ended up running 4 miles and biking 50 miles.

Today, I will be planting mums and going to a yoga class-as I say silent prayers for my dear friend who passed yesterday, her family, the victims of 9/11, and the hurricane survivors.

Diane Norman was a wonderful mother to Jaclyn (one of Olivia’s best friends), and a friend to me.  Her passing will be felt for a long time for those who knew her and loved her.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
