Simonopio, a baby when found under a bridge and swarming with bees, comes to change a small Mexican town forever.  He is adopted by the Morales family. He is disfigured and cannot speak and some locals refer to him as a child kissed by the devil.

As Simonopio grows, we discover his many gifts.  It is Simonopio who saves the Morales family farm from devastation.  And it is Simonopio who brought the family back together.

Words escape me from giving this novel a proper summary, I don’t know where to begin. It’s a massive piece of work, covering the Mexican Revolution to the Spanish Flu.  It highlights the kindness of strangers and the darkness some people have within.

The words and story with stay with you.  A fantastic choice for a book club.
