Reading a novel written by Kristin Hannah is a real treat! She takes you on a journey with many twists and turns and returns you back changed in some way. I trust her as a writer- she has never disappointed me in her story telling. I know she will present difficult problems, but she always solves them in the end- never leaving the reader questioning. Therefore, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Be prepared to go on a journey through the wilderness of Alaska and experience the harshness of the elements while coping with a husband and father who is suffering from PTSD and has frequent violent outbursts. You will be rooting for Cora and her young daughter Leni as they plot their exit from the abuse of Ernt, an alcoholic who will stop at nothing to keep his wife and daughter in his sights.
Book clubs will love reading this one and discussing the difficulties the Allbright family endures while living in the harshness of Alaska in the 1970’s.
