Where we stayed: Pittsburgh Marriott City Center, beautiful hotel with a wonderful dining area that we took full advantage of each morning with a hearty breakfast.
Memorable restaurant: Southern Tier Brewery- great beer, good food, an awesome outdoor area with a dog park- near the Pirates Stadium, and even had a singer/guitarist the day we were there. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and of course the BEER!
What we did: Besides being very busy with a family wedding, we did manage to rent bikes and tour the city. We love riding through the Point State Park, the Strip District. Pittsburgh has lots of biking trails so it’s easy to get around the city. Dave woke up early and ran the city with no problems while I slept in 🙂 Walking the city is also a pleasure with lots of quaint shops to explore.
Karen and I had a great excuse to visit Pittsburg over the Memorial Day weekend. My 2nd cousin, Blaine invited us to his and Chalet’s wedding. Not only was the rehearsal dinner and wedding fantastic, but downtown Pittsburg exceeded our expectations. We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel on 6th street (on the water front downtown).

Although it was cold and rainy most of the weekend, we did manage to rent some city bikes and tool around the town for a few hours. We mostly stuck to bike path’s that followed the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers, stopping at places like Herr’s Island, the Strip District, and Penn and Southern Tier Breweries.

We will definitely go back to visit Pittsburg again in the near future, maybe even take in a baseball game. Although, seeing the Stealers during the fall would be enjoyable as well. With retirement, maybe we will do both! 🙂
