Spending time with KJ

How fortunate are we to have grandchildren and spending time with them is a pleasure!  We had a wonderful time with our oldest grandson this month- I thought I would share with you.

How fortunate are we to have grandchildren and spending time with them is a pleasure!  We had a wonderful time with our oldest grandson this month- I thought I would share with you.

Planning is the key when you want to make the most of your time and you want to ensure great memories.  We had KJ on Sunday, July 4th am. – July 5th pm.  Only two days and one night…we needed to plan.

KJ likes is to run around and keep busy.  He is an active 6 yr. old who loves to laugh, talk, be silly, play games and watch dirt bike videos on YouTube. Knowing this, we planned to take him to a baseball game, to a local park, to a Metro Park to swim and rent a boat, and play Cornhole in our yard.  Lots of fun!

We met Lauren half-way from our home and hers to pick-up KJ.  He was super excited to see what we had planned for him.  We first took him home to have lunch.  As we ate, he kept looking around the house trying to remember the last time he visited.  With the pandemic, we have had very few visitors and no sleepovers.  After lunch we played Cornhole.  He loves this game and is quite good.  He beat Dave and made sure to rub it in Dave’s face. 🙂

In the evening we bought tickets for a game at Jimmy John’s Ball Park in downtown Utica.  We ate dinner at Muldoon’s, a restaurant across from the baseball field.  With the shortage of waitstaff, we ended up waiting 1 1/2 hours for our food…it could have been horrible but KJ looked at my phone for a while watching videos and was content until we finally got our food order.

After full bellies, we headed over to the game.  What fun we had! KJ was able to run the bases, hit some balls, pitch a ball and record his speed, and enjoy the spectacular fireworks show at the end.  We were spent!

The next morning after a few games of cornhole, we headed to the Metro-Beach Park and rented a boat.  We tooled around for an hour or so then headed to the beach.  We played in the water and swam.  We had such fun watching KJ go down the huge slide.

Shortly thereafter, we had to meet Lauren half-way and give him back.  We were both sad to say good-bye.  KJ is such a kind and fun little person and we just loved having a few days with him.

Till next time…
