Recap of July 2021

Dave has been home now for 1 month and he reports that he is loving retirement!  Can’t believe a whole career is checked off his list and now he is looking for projects to complete around the house.  I am still working in the Library and loving my job. There is no way I am retiring… ever!

We have been busy this summer enjoying the weather in Michigan, sitting on our back porch and traveling some.

This is a view of our garden area.  We comment on how lucky we are to have this in our view as we relax on the back porch.  I should add, we have started to replace the brown wood mulch with plastic mulch.  It’s durable and better for the environment, I’ll do a post on that topic soon.

We gave Olivia and Zach a baby shower (you can read about it here). She was beyond happy with the turn out and the generosity of the guests.

We traveled to Grand Rapids, stayed at the JW Marriott , our favorite, and spent a few days with our very good friends Ann and Dave.  They love biking and craft beer as much as we do.

Whenever one visits Grand Rapids a trip to Cedar Springs Brewery needs to be on the list of places to eat and drink!
We also indulged in a few cold ones from Atwater. They are relatively new to the Grand Rapids area and within walking distance from the JW Marriott.

Dave wants to start making over the study and make it more of a reading watching TV room.  So he gave the desk away to the neighbor and donated the old TV stand, we sold the old rug and chair.  We ordered a new lounge chair and put in a bookshelf.  The new TV stand is a corner piece and fits much better in the space.  Paint and a new rug will happen soon. Whatever he can do to make the space look brighter will make me happy.  I’ll post pics as he continues to work on the room.

We have been busy shopping as well.  New tables will be coming soon for the living room.  We sold these old iron ones we have had for years and surprisingly many people showed interest in them.  Go figure.  One man’s trash… Anyway, the new ones are from Gorman’s Furniture and the brand is Hooker.  They should look nice in the room.  New rug is coming soon too!

Sorry for the dark pic, old tables were outdated and very heavy on the eye.

I put together a very nice flower arrangement that cost so little money and it looked fresh for days.  All from Kroger.

Two food items we discovered this month.  This drink is refreshing and gives just enough kick!  Morning Star Farms has a wonderful spicy black bean burger.  I microwave them and take them to work with me.  Delicious.

Over July 4th weekend we had KJ for an overnighter.  Loved every moment of it!  You can read about it here.

Exercise stats for the month:

  • Running 55 miles
  • Biking: 289 miles

Favorite new song- piano version of Lover by Taylor Swift, take a listen.

You are now caught up with Dak living!  🙂
