Changing up the Study

With Dave being retired, he is now looking for projects to complete around the house.  I could not be happier! 🙂  For many years, and especially during the pandemic, he has had his office in the study.  This room was off limits while he was home working.  Not now!  Now, we can decorate and open it up and finally get rid of his oversized desk.

The neighbor took the desk yesterday…free of charge, just happy to get it out of the house.  We are getting rid of the rug and the brown chair and replacing those with a leather chair that is more comfortable and a more stylish rug.  Walls will be painted white and light cream to lighten up the room, and Dave will be attempting a feature wall with molding.  We are keeping the loveseat and book shelf and adding a slim corner TV stand.  The biggest change will be adding the French doors that lead into the study from the entrance hall.

Just painting the walls will make a huge difference in the feel of the room.  I really like the rug from Rugs.com and I am happy to be able to reuse the book shelf, the loveseat and leather ottoman.  A new light fixture from home depot should finish off the room.

Considering this corner TV stand from Wayfair.

We will keep you posted on the progress of the room.  The list of projects is growing and I’m smiling bigly, ha, does anyone really use that word?

Kirklands for the win

Shopping on-line is the easiest way to shop and Kirkland’s makes it super easy.  You have the option to ship to a store or your home.  I love going to the local Kirkland’s store to look for clearance items or the “pick of the week” special.   You can also use their coupons in store or on-line if the items are not on sale.  I signed up to receive email alerts, so my weekly coupons go right to my email address.  Right now, there is a 20% coupon available.

Today, all these items are on sale or regular priced and all under $20.00!

First off let’s love on this cute succulent planter with the beautiful black bohemian inspired vase.  $14.99

Next, we have a basket weave vase that is weathered looking just waiting for added stems or you could leave unfilled to display.  $19.99

The metal lantern is very stylish. Bonus you could use it indoor or out!  $19.99

I ordered these gray beads and I love them.  They are the perfect size and so trendy.  I also bought them for my brother and Lauren for her house.  A simple and inexpensive item to update your coffee table or entry table in your foyer.  $14.99

Cyber Monday sales!

Hi friends!  Truth be told, it’s nice to get back to work today.  We enjoyed a wonderfully long weekend, but I really missed my routine for some reason.  I miss my time sitting at the Reference Desk.  I can usually get some personal searching done and that is what I have done today.  I emailed myself a list of bargains I found and then ordered them at lunch.  I have already ordered quite a few sale items today and now I can finally say I am done Christmas shopping for this year!!  Yup, all done.

That felt good to say!  I hope you are enjoying the savings as much as I am.  How was your Thanksgiving?  We had lots of fun running the Turkey Trot in Detroit and then hanging out at Campus Martius for a little while.  We got home in time for the Lions and I put the turkey breast in the oven for a 4:00 dinner.  Dave’s brother came over and hung with us all afternoon and enjoyed the Thanksgiving meal as well.

Seriously, it’s November already?

Wow, I can’t believe how quickly the weeks and months are flying by.  We were so busy this weekend and it all started with a comedian we love- are you familiar with Tom Papa??  On Friday night, I surprised Dave with tickets to his comedy show in downtown Detroit.  Tom Papa is one of Dave’s top three comedians and he has never seen him live.  When I caught wind he was coming to town I grabbed the tickets before he was sold out.

The venue was a place neither one of us had gone to- The Majestic Theater on Woodward Ave, located in the heart of mid-town.  It was a small venue which was perfect because there was not a bad seat in the house.  Tom Papa was hilarious! You can see him on Netflix or on YouTube. Prior to the show we had dinner at the HopCat- one of our favorites whenever we head downtown.

I had the Cobb salad (Keto friendly) and Dave enjoyed the Portobello Dip sandwich.  We both had a dark beer. I had a Dragon’s Milk from New Holland Brewery and Dave ordered a Tiramisu Stout from Ellison Brewery.

On Saturday Dave hung my lamps in the office/spare bedroom for me.  It’s been on the “Honey do List” for a while:) This room is taking shape and I can’t wait to share it with you.

And finally, I got to watch the grand-kids this weekend.  I went over there on Saturday morning and didn’t return till Monday mid-morning.  I was beat!  I forgot how busy two little ones are.  We played games and read books, played hide and seek, put puzzles together… it was so wonderful and I am grateful to be able to spend that much time with them.  Lauren and Christopher had a destination wedding to attend and I was so happy they asked me to help.
That’s it, busy as usual.  How was your weekend?  Did you watch the Lions lose?  What an upset!
Are you thinking holiday decorating yet?  Every blog I follow has already been talking about it.  We do loose six days between the holidays this year, so Christmas will seem earlier.  But truthfully, I can’t wait…I will be decorating a week before Thanksgiving and when our company comes over for their Thanksgiving dinner, they will be looking at a Christmas tree!
Enjoy the week-
Karen
