Feburary Monthly Media 2021

A great month to read for sure!  The Michigan snow came down hard and often so sitting in front of the fireplace with a good book, was pure joy.

This month I was overjoyed to read and recommend to many of my readers The Girl with the Louding Voice.  I thought the book was an inspirational captivating story about a young girl sold into marriage and yet was able to rise above her circumstance and follow her dreams.  A must read for all book clubs- the discussions that will ensue will be uplifting and moving.

I also read a book recommendation from a Librarian friend of mine…My Dark Vanessa.  Wow, what a ride this story provided.  I am not usually into teacher/pupil relationship stories, especially if they involve questionable material, but this book was so well written- I could not put it down. Vanessa, 15 yrs. old and attending boarding school, is a lost soul and her English teacher is a predator.  Intriguing, I know.  The story is told through Vanessa’s voice and she does not hold back details.  This is another good choice for a book club.  Be sure to mention it with a warning, it may offend some participants.

Looking for a coffee table book?  How about a  special book with beautiful pictures and intriguing stories.  Look no further.  This is a sizeable book and heavy, containing 437 colorful pages.  It will take weeks to read, especially if you savor the images.  I love the back story involving the author/ photographer.  You can read about him here.

I have enjoyed two very good, yet different books on Intermittent Fasting this month.  The book written by Dr. Becky Gillaspy breaks down facts and myths about Intermittent Dieting.  The doctor gives great advice on what works for her; I especially like the 0,1,2,3 rule.  The 0 represents how much sugar you should eat in a day, 1 represents the notion that lunch should consist of a very large, nutrient filled salad.  For dinner you should include 2 cupfuls of non-starchy vegetables alongside your protein, and 3 is the amount of hours you should stop eating before you turn the lights off for bed.  I love the simplicity of her thinking.  I have already adapted this philosophy into my own lifestyle.  I have also been asked to return my copy back to the library, so this one will be ordered and in my next Amazon delivery. 🙂  Her recipes are not to be missed, especially her low-carb bread loaf- so good!  Consider purchasing this book if you’re considering a new diet and wanted a lifestyle change.  I have been fasting the entire month of February, 18 hours of fast with a 6 hour eating window and I feel great and have lost a few pounds. 🙂

The Gin Stephens book reads like an autobiography.  Her story is typical- heavy, frustrated, found something that works and has lost tons of weight.  She promotes IF as a lifestyle change and even does the OMAD- one meal a day often.  Her entire family is on board with IF and I did enjoy reading about her journey.

A fasting tracker app I found is called Zero.  It’s a healthy life-style app that records your fasting data and reminds you when your fast begins and ends.  It is so helpful and I don’t think I would be successful without the app.
