Michigan is at its best in the autumn! The leaves are turning, kids get back to school, the temps cool down and exercise is so much easier when you are not sweating. 🙂 When not exercising, I enjoy my down time with good books! I managed to read lots this month starting with a fabulous psychological thriller titled The Golden Cage. A blogger I follow recommended reading Nordic Noir, (stories focusing on complex characters, usually involving the police or lawyers with the setting in Scandinavian countries- think Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), if your interests lie in mystery novels. I was so intrigued I hurried to check out the author Camilla Lackberg. Our library has many of her books, so I started with The Golden Cage. You can read my thoughts about the book here. I then moved on to a Paula Hawkins book titled A Slow fire Burning. I did not love this title, I was hoping the book would draw me in like The Girl on the Train did a few years back. I also read Where I left Her by Amber Garza. A good thriller about a missing husband.
Moving on to non-fiction titles…I read each month one chapter from Dr. Gupta’s book Keep Sharp. I’m on chapter three. I found this wonderful cookbook, Bare Minimum Dinners, on the new shelf and made the Chickpea, Kale and Sausage Stew. I changed the recipe up a little and instead of sausage I made it with Impossible Sausage, and it was wonderful! I highly suggest this cookbook for everyday healthy dinners. Most recipes have six or fewer ingredients. 🙂
Movies, DVD’S…
Really enjoying The Middle. The library owns all seasons and the show is a great way to close out the evening with something funny.
The Guilty –Jake Gyllenhaal plays an 911 operator trying to help someone who is being held captive. Very good and excellent acting.
Listening to lately…
Did you see the interview with Tony Bennett on 60 minutes? If not, here you go. I had tears in my eyes as I watched and listened. Since then I have been on the hunt for some good Bennett songs. So many on YouTube.
